One Big Scottish Wedding

There were at least 12 girls in one hotel room when we arrived the morning of Casey and Julie's wedding. They were having a great time. The bride seemed very calm getting her hair done off to the side of the madness. Casey on the other hand, was already having a party with his groomsmen. The ceremony took place in a small church in Fruit Heights Utah, it was short and sweet. The reception was held at The Victorian in Layton, Utah it was a lot of fun! If you want to finally see what's under a kilt, scroll down. Enjoy!

Thank you Casey and Julie for letting us be part of your fun wedding! You two are the best!

Rio Tinto Stadium Engagement | Raquel+Robert

Raquel and Robert are the sweetest couple, the way he takes care of her in the smallest ways is really cool. They make each other laugh and genuinely have a good time together. These two are mega fans of Real Salt Lake and of Soccer in general. It was a lot of fun being in the stadium. It was a beautiful fall evening with lots of sunshine and cool weather.

I'm looking forward to photographing the wedding soon!  Thanks for a great shoot you guys, it was a lot of fun!

Ogden Canyon Bride

Finding the perfect location can be fun to do. I needed a place that could resemble Scotland, lots of green and rocks hopefully with ivy growing on them. Living in a desert presents a challenge. I was able to, of course find green and it happened to come with some rocks, thank you Ogden Canyon.

Julie, my gorgeous bride looked amazing. It was a cooler summer day with a threat of rain. Clouds are always great in photographs. Julie has the best sense of humor, always making everyone laugh.

Thanks for the wonderful shoot! I'll be posting some of their gorgeous wedding photos soon.

Silver Lake Engagement | Brooke + Travis

The sun was getting ready to set over the mountains in Salt Lake City, Utah. It was warm bordering on hot up at Silver Lake, Brighton Ski Resort. The boardwalk that surrounds the lake is a haven for fisherman, campers and families out for an evening stroll. It was busy! We had to dodge people and strollers while doing our engagement session.

Brooke and Travis are two of the most awesome people you could ever meet. They are so kind sweet and silly, you can really see how much they love each other. I'm so excited to photograph their wedding, can't wait to see how all of their hard work and planning turns out.  We had a lot of fun capturing their images, we even ran into a moose. It really is a nature lovers paradise up there, calm, relaxing and beautiful.

Anniversary Traditions

This week marks our 11 year wedding anniversary, what a ride! I won't say it's been easy but I love the man more than anything. I was trying to come up with a gift for Vic when I stumbled upon a bunch of sites about traditional anniversary gifts and what they mean. I had no idea you were supposed to give certain gifts that symbolize different stages of your marriage. I found the list to be quite interesting and thought I would share what I learned.

Happy Anniversary Vic! Love you!

By the way gift 11 is Steel, it's a good thing he's a chef! and a damn good one at that.

These are a couple of our wedding photos, they are the exact reason you should hire a professional photographer. I don't have too many and they are blurry, but what I have I love.

We were married in Romania, it was 100 degrees and 100% humidity. Yes, that is "happy Romanian face" we were all dying of heat. We had much more fun at the party.

The tradition of giving gifts goes back to the middle ages. The passing of another year together marks a deepening of the couples commitment and an accumulation of irreplaceable time. The order of the gifts reflects the investment that the couple gives to each other.

Here's the first installment: 1 to 11

1st Wedding Anniversary
Traditional Gifts: Paper
Modern Gifts: Clocks
Celebrating: The year of adjustment. Reflect on both the delicate and hardy aspects of your marriage and your love for each other.

2nd Wedding Anniversary
Traditional Gifts: Cotton
Modern Gifts: China
Celebrating: By the time a couple celebrates their second anniversary, they are more cozy with one another, making cotton the appropriate anniversary gift for this wedding anniversary celebration.

3rd Wedding Anniversary
Traditional Gifts: Leather
Modern Gifts: Crystal
Celebrating: The 3rd wedding anniversary is often when a couple is aware of their durability of their relationship. That is why leather is the traditional gift.

4th Wedding Anniversary
Traditional Gifts: Fruit or Flowers
Modern Gifts: Appliances
Celebrating: Representing the blossoming partnership of a couple in their fourth year of marriage, flowers are appropriate and meaningful gifts for this anniversary.

5th Wedding Anniversary
Traditional Gifts: Wood
Modern Gifts: Silverware
Celebrating: Wood, representing strength and a solidified relationship, and silverware, representing connectedness,

6th Wedding Anniversary
Traditional Gifts: Candy or Iron
Modern Gifts: Wood
Celebrating: Candy represents the sweetness in your marriage, iron represents good luck and strength, and wood represents a solid relationship.

7th Wedding Anniversary
Traditional Gifts: Wool or Copper
Modern Gifts: Desk Sets
Celebrating: Copper has long had a traditional meaning of prosperity, good luck, and good fortune. Couples who celebrate their seventh wedding anniversary can indeed celebrate their good fortune in finding one another.

8th Wedding Anniversary
Traditional Gifts: Bronze or Pottery
Modern Gifts: Linens or Lace
Celebrating: Bronze is created by combining copper and tin and a strong marriage is created by the joining of two individuals who not only love one another, but who also place a high priority on their time together. Pottery begins with just a lump of clay that is slowly formed into something beautiful. Through their eight years together, a couple shapes their marriage into a beautiful relationship.

9th Wedding Anniversary
Traditional Gifts: Pottery and Willow
Modern Gifts: Leather

10th Wedding Anniversary
Traditional Gifts: Tin or Aluminum
Modern Gifts:Diamond Jewelry
Celebrating: The tenth year of marriage celebration is the first of the major milestone anniversaries. As you celebrate this special 10th wedding anniversary, think about the durability of your commitment to one another for a full decade.

11th Wedding Anniversary
Traditional Gifts: Steel
Modern Gifts: Fashion Jewelry

At 11 the cord between the two of you is strong and harder to break. If you could ever break it.

Grand America Hotel Wedding: Katelyn+Gerome

It was a gorgeous bright and sunny day for a wedding in Layton, Utah. Family and friends had gathered locally and many had flown in from Guam for this very special event. When Gerome asked Katelyn to be his wife, she joined a family rich in culture, but even richer in love.

Katelyn and Gerome, you are an amazing couple. Thank you for the honor of being part of your beautiful day. Your families are both wonderful and kind, and a lot of fun. We enjoyed every minute of your wedding.

The day began with hair and makeup, made better by laughter from her bridesmaids and a bit of champagne.

Katelyn's mom was so kind and gracious...and enjoyed every moment of helping her daughter into her stunning Maggie Sottero Gown....

Gerome surrounded himself with a group of guys who are a walking party.

After a beautiful ceremony, at the St. Rose of Lima, Catholic church in Layton; Everyone piled into the limo and headed down to the Grand America Hotel in Salt Lake City, Utah for the party.

The bride and groom loved each other in such an intimate way....it was a beautiful thing to witness.

The ballroom at the Grand America Hotel was full of white and pink flowers....it smelled wonderful.

Many thanks to the following team who helped make this day possible....

Ogden Canyon Engagement Julie + Casey

The sun was getting ready to set across the Salt Lake City Valley, there was a hint of what could be a thunderstorm about to burst. I met up with Julie and Casey for their engagement photo shoot. One of my favorite things about them is that they are always ready for a good time. They love to laugh and always invite others to share in their playfulness.

I was honored to photograph this fantastic couple and I can't wait for their big day!

7 Unique Ideas for your Wedding

Here are 7 unique ideas for your wedding, from ceremony to details these romantic ideas will inspire love in us all.

1. Wine Box with Love Letters

Write each other love letters the morning of your wedding then seal them with a bottle of your favorite wine into a personalized box. Drink the wine and read the letters on your first anniversary, then write another letter and seal it up again for future anniversaries. Make it part of your ceremony!

found on theeverylastdetail.com

2. Have the groom write a message to the bride on her shoe the morning of the wedding.

Another idea; Have the bridesmaids do the same thing on the bride's shoes, whoever's name is still on the shoe by the end of the night is the next to be married.

3. Unity Bowl

As your guests enter for the ceremony, give each of them a stone to hold. Take a moment during the ceremony to focus love on the stones then as the guests exit have them place the stones in a decorative bowl that the bride and groom can display in their home and always remember the love and presence of their family and friends.

4. Pin something sentimental to your bouquet.

This a wonderful way to include someone who can't be at the wedding or to remember someone who has passed.

On a warm early fall day, with mountain views and a rustic feel, sunshine glittered off the nearby pond while friends and family gathered to see two of the most loving people profess their love to one another.

Fall-wedding-01.jpg

The gorgeous bride was a little reserved as she prepared for her big day. Dressed in a gown covered in sheer lace, she glowed.

How to Look Amazing in Your Photos on Your Wedding Day | 5 tips

Every bride wants to look gorgeous in their photos on their wedding day. Here are 5 simple yet sometimes overlooked tips to help you look fabulous.

1. Smile a lot.

The big day is finally here, you've dreamt about it, planned it and now you could be a little anxious. Take a deep breath and relax. You want gorgeous images right? It's very simple and easy to do, smile more. Walking down the isle, smile, during the entire ceremony, smile. Relax, enjoy your day and every moment in it. One more thing...make sure your husband smiles too!

2. Don't look directly at the camera (unless your photographer tells you to).

Not looking at the camera will give you more natural looking photos. It gives the impression that the camera is not really there. It's also easier to relax when you are looking at the one you love.

Rustic, Intimate, Fall wedding in Ogden Utah

3. Show how much you love each other.

Photographers love it when couples interact with each other. It instantly makes a photo more interesting. It's much more appealing when you look at each other, smile and share your feelings of love towards each other. Stay close to each other at the reception, visit family and friends together, eat together and of course dance with each other.

4. Have Fun!

Forget about insignificant details and small problems. You must have fun! Laugh a lot, be playful and have a good time. It's a day to really be happy and celebrate!

5. Give your photographer enough time to create beautiful images.

Make sure you have ample time between your ceremony and reception to go out and get those epic creative shots. Don't try to cram them in so you are rushing around. Relax, have extra time and enjoy the experience. Try a "first look" if you are having time issues. Often the best images come from private, intimate moments.

Vintage Trains and a Gorgeous Couple

When a gorgeous bride says to me "Let's do a vintage 1940's train theme for our engagement photos."   I say, "Yes, please!"

I love researching themes for photo shoots!

How fun it is to take a few key words like Audrey Hepburn and vintage trains, get some cool ideas from old movie posters, a little bit of baby powder for steam (it does work) then turn them into awesome pieces of art.

Here's a couple of my inspiration pictures,

inspiration for a vintage train engagement shoot.

So, when you have a consultation with your photographer, give them ideas of what you want. Keywords, colors, themes, particular years or movies. Then let us go crazy with creativity, I guarantee you'll get some great images!
